Purananooru - 51 to 55 (English Translation)

51. Paandiyan Koodakaaraththuth Thunjiya Marran Vazhudhi

Is there is a hurdle to prevent a big flood if it springs wildly ? Is there a safe place to escape and hide when there is a big fire ? Is there any shadow which has a power of preventing a big storm ? Like that when Maaran Vazhudhi got anger not bearing to hear that the cold Thamizhnaadu is common to the three kings and came to war. The kings who obey and give tribute can live without sorrow. Those who refuse to give tribute are pitiable. They loose his kindness. Their life will vanish in a second like the vanishing life of the winged termites which come out from the nests of the earth which are built by the white ants with hard effort. -Iyoor Mudavanaar

52. A Song About Paandiyan Koodakaaraththuth Thunjchiya Maaran Vazhudhi

The stong tiger in the cave which is in the mountain which has high peaks and goddesses, hates being idle and goes for hunting to get its prey. Oh Maaran Vazhudhi ! You are like that strong tiger. You fought a big war so that the kings of the north were destroyed. You have a beautiful chariot. If it is a war begun by you with a desire , there is none to stand against you and escape in this world. The countries of your enemies who oppose you will become waste forests and vanish. Their towns will be filled with the odour and smoke while roasting the fish. Their fertile lands will loose their new income. There will not be any worship. The altars will become useless places. The old people will be gambling. The wood hens which have dots on their feathers will lay eggs where ever there are pits. -Marudhan Ilanaahanaar

53. A Song About Seramaan Maandharanjcheral Irumporai

The spread white sand looks like the pearl in the matured shells . The shining gems are fixed in the storeys. The ladies who have worn beautiful bangles, gathered to dance kuravai dance in Vilangil town. The enemies tried to stop their dance. You defeated them and removed the sorrow of the dancers. You have the honour of having strong elephants and fast running horses. If we elaborate your fame, it will go on increasing. If we try to tell it briefly, it will go on growing. Poets like me cannot tell it fully ever. Your fame astonishes us. Though your fame is vast in this world where so many scholars have born. We should not stay saying that we could not do. It will be nice, if Kapilar, who has the ability of writing many meaningful poems very quickly , is alive now. You feel that you are not lucky enough to have him today. Though Kapilar is not alive, I will sing your fame got by defeating your enemies as much I can. -Porundhil Ilangkeeranaar

54. A Song About Seramaan Kuttuvan Kodhai

The town in which our king Seramaan Kuttuvan stays and rules is an ancient town. It is easy for the poets only to enter into his town at any time like the people of that town and enter into his courtyard proudly. Kuttuvan Kodhai has the quality of giving to the beggars so that the rainy cloud will feel shame. If his enemies think that they can also go like the poets, they will perish like the shepherd , who has worn dirty clothes, garland made up of leaves and folded lips to whistle, wishes to go with his flock of sheep which have small heads, near the forest where the tiger lives and dies. -Konaattu Erichchaloor maadalan Madhurai Kumaranaar

55. A Song About Paandiyan Ilavandhigaippalli Thunjchiya Nanmaaran

Lord Siva has a sapphire like throat. He made the big , high Meru mountain as a bow and Vaasuhi snake as a chord. He destroyed the three forts with a single arrow. He has worn the crescent moon on his hair. On his beautiful face, there is an eye on the forehead. You are like that forehead eye of Lord Siva and you are above all kings. Oh Maaraa wearing garland and having fame ! The kingdom which has the big four army is a good kingdom. The four armies are: 1.Fighting elephants which have much anger 2.Horses which run fast 3.Big chariots which have long flags 4.Warriors who have strong will. The greatness of the kingdom depends upon its righteous rule. The king should not bend the scepter to hide the crime of one who is his favorite . He should not think to punish one without considering his good qualities as he is a stranger. Oh king ! You shine like the red sun which gives light commonly. You give cold light like the white moon. You give gifts like the rain. You give those who come to you saying that they have nothing, without saying “No”. Oh great king! You live long. In the Thiruchendur town white waves are destroying again the seashore. Oh king! You live billions of years than the spread sand. -Madurai Marudhan Ilanaahanaar.
